Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) is a treatment that replaces enzymes for patients that suffer from chronic conditions resulting from enzyme deficiencies or malfunction. Most patients receiving ERT have a lysosomal storage disease. These disorders are rare inherited diseases that without treatment have serious consequences on a person’s life. Examples of diseases treated by ERT include Fabry Disease, Gaucher Disease, and Pompe Disease. Patients with these rare conditions require lifelong treatment. Your treatment team will carry out your physician’s orders to intravenously infuse your ERT medications as prescribed.
